Gevalia - Open-face" pocket watch, Silver. 0.800 - 1900-1949

Gevalia 800 Silver Pocket Watch (ca. 1910) and Antique Long Chain Sautoir with Gold Filled (Walzgold) Shape Exclusive antique collector's lot from the Art Nouveau era (ca. 1910). This lot combines a beautiful Swiss silver pocket watch from "Gevalia" with a rare, highly collectible long German "Sautoir" chain. A perfect marriage of watchmaking history and period jewelry. Brand / Dial: Signed "Gevalia" on the dial with additional "IMPORT" marking. Features a stunning, finely textured guilloche dial with elegant gold Arabic numerals, outer 13-24 hour markers in red and exquisite, openwork Louis XIV style hands. Sub-seconds sub-dial at 6 o'clock. Case material: Solid 800 silver. The outer edges are in the classic French “Galonné” technique (a coating of rose gold on silver), which gives it a beautiful two-tone look. Distinguishing features: Fully marked on the inside of the case back with the Imperial German silver mark (Crown and Crescent), the official Swiss silver mark 800 (Capercaillie/Auerhan) and the case serial number 241109. The inner dust cover (cuvette) is marked “Metal” according to the historical standard. Movement: High-quality Swiss mechanical movement with a bridge-type layout and a matte gold-plated finish. It features a manual winding and pin mechanism, as well as a regulator scale with Advanced/Retard (A/R) and Fast/Slow (F/S) indicators. Diameter: 50.7 mm (excluding crown/bow). Weight (watch only): 76.3 grams. Condition: The silver case is in excellent condition with minimal wear to the Galonné. The crystal is clear and the dial has a beautiful authentic patina. The mechanism is clean and works (service history unknown). Antique Chain ("UNION") A very rare and highly sought after long "Sautoir" / Guard chain. Used in the past to carry a watch or lorgnette, these chains are very fashionable today in antique jewelry fashion, worn as layered necklaces. Material: High quality rolled gold / gold-plated (Walzgold / Double). It has a rich, deep rose gold hue that perfectly complements the accents of the watch. Maker's Mark / Hallmarks: The end link is clearly marked with the famous trademark "UNION" and the maker's initials "G.H." (originating from the prestigious jewelry center of Pforzheim, Germany). Design: Fitted with two antique rotating clasps (dog clip) with classic Edwardian ribbed details. Classic clasp style. Weight (chain only): 6.8 grams. Condition: Excellent antique condition, no wear to the base metal. Both clasps are solid and fully functional. Why this lot is a great investment: This is a wonderful historical ensemble. While the watch is a solid gentleman's piece, the chain is an elegant German Art Nouveau piece. Finding such well-preserved items with clear maker's stamps ("UNION G.H.") and impeccable double silver hallmarks is a real rarity. Ideal for collectors or as a luxury vintage gift.
