Mask - Nō-Maske Kushige Hime (櫛笥姫) (Ohne mindestpreis)

Title: Japanese Noh Theatre Hand-carved Wood Mask, Kushige Hime (櫛笥姫) Workshop: Sōgeisha (双芸社) Dimensions: H 21.2 × W 13.5 × D 8 cm (8.35 × 5.31 × 3.15 in) Weight: 183 g Material: Solid carved wood coated with traditional Japanese Urushi lacquer Period: Late Taisho to Showa era, circa 1940–1950 This authentic female Noh mask of Kushige Hime (櫛笥姫) is entirely hand-carved from single solid timber, a classic design representing noble court ladies for traditional Japanese Noh performances. The front is finished with vintage gofun base pigment, featuring hand-drawn fine eyebrows, slender almond eyes and vivid crimson lips in a gentle, refined facial form. Historically, this mask was worn onstage to portray noble princesses and female spirits in classical Noh plays. Its reverse side is fully lacquered in black to preserve the wood against moisture. Cut-out openings at the eyes and mouth grant sight and airflow for performers, while small side holes were made to thread cords for wearing during stage performances. Vertically engraved workshop mark Sōgeisha (双芸社) is located on the inner forehead; an original antique washi paper label hand-inscribed Kushige Hime (櫛笥姫) is adhered to the back. It shows natural yellowing, minor abrasion, dust buildup and signs of wear with age. No cracks or restorations, overall in good condition.
