Altes Ägypten, Ptolemäisch - Greystone-Fragment Statue - 12 cm (Ohne mindestpreis)

EGYPT | Ptolemaic Egyptian Statue Fragment – Lower Torso / Hip Section with Kilt Details – Greystone / Dark Egyptian Stone – 332–30 BC An evocative ancient Egyptian statue fragment, attributed to the Ptolemaic Period, preserving part of the lower torso or hip section of a standing figure. The fragment appears to come from the central hip and upper leg area of a male figure. Several carved vertical elements are visible, probably belonging to the pleated front section or side folds of a traditional Egyptian kilt or shendyt. The worked surfaces show clear sculptural modelling, with remains of sharply cut ridges and flat polished planes contrasting with the rough ancient break surfaces. The stone is a fine-grained dark grey to grey-green hard stone, most probably Egyptian greywacke or a closely related dark hardstone. This type of stone was highly valued in ancient Egypt for sculpture and is especially associated with high-quality statuary from the Late Period and Ptolemaic Period. The compact structure, dark colour and smooth worked faces are consistent with this identification. A precise geological identification would require laboratory analysis, but visually the material is closer to greywacke / dark hardstone than to ordinary limestone. Measurements: 8 x 10 x 14 cm. Weight ca. 2128 grams The fragment has a strong archaeological presence. The surface shows ancient wear, mineral encrustations, small chips, abrasions and old break edges. The upper and lower parts of the original statue are missing, as expected for a fragment of this type. The surviving carved details are nevertheless attractive and clearly readable. A fine collector’s object for lovers of ancient Egyptian sculpture, Ptolemaic art and archaeological fragments. Culture: Ancient Egypt Period: Ptolemaic Period, 332–30 BC Object type: Statue fragment Preserved part: Lower torso / hip section, probably with remains of a kilt or shendyt Material: Dark grey hardstone, probably Egyptian greywacke / metagreywacke Condition: Fragmentary condition; ancient breaks, surface wear, chips, abrasions, mineral deposits and weathering; see photographs Provenance: German private collection, since 1955, aquired in Alexandria The object is described to the best of the seller’s knowledge. The seller guarantees that the item was acquired legally. Carefully packed and insured shipping.
