Christofle - Émile Reiber, "Deux Poissons" - Vase - Versilbert
A beautiful and heavy silver-plated "Deux Poissons" vase by Christofle, France.
The "Deux Poissons" (Two Fish) model, designed by Émile Reiber in the early 1870s. Reiber headed Christofle's design studio from 1865 to 1878 and drew his inspiration from a Japanese Edo-period bronze vase in the Cernuschi collection in Paris.
The design was first exhibited in 1874.
The vase depicts two intertwined fish with beautifully detailed scale work covering the entire surface. The two fish heads face outward at the front, with a single opening at the top and the tails crossing to form the base.
Stamped Christofle on the base with additional hallmarks.
Condition is lovely. No chipping, no cracks, no repairs. A heavy, solid piece that looks absolutely fantastic.
