Get your hands on this serviced vintage Seiko 5 Sports Speedtimer 7017-6020 automatic flyback chronograph from December 1970 with original black dial, English-Kanji day wheel and 3-month functionality guarantee.
Model history:
The Seiko 5 Sports Speedtimer reference 7017-6020 is a highly distinctive vintage automatic chronograph from the early 1970s. It belongs to Seiko’s important first generation of automatic chronograph watches, a period in which the brand became one of the major innovators in self-winding chronograph technology.
This model is powered by the Seiko 7017 automatic chronograph movement. The 7017 calibre is notable for its compact construction and flyback chronograph function, allowing the chronograph to be reset and restarted instantly with a single push while running. Unlike many later chronographs, this design keeps a clean dial layout without sub-registers, using the central chronograph hand together with the internal timing scale for elapsed time reading.
The 7017-6020 is one of the most recognisable 5 Sports Speedtimer references, with its large stainless steel case, black dial, orange accents, tachymeter bezel and multi-scale dial design. The combination of the original black dial, Kanji/English day-date display and bold 1970s sports styling makes this a very collectable vintage Seiko chronograph today.

Condition:
The watch is in good overall vintage condition with a strong and highly attractive presence on the wrist. The stainless steel case shows visible signs of age and use, including scratches, small marks and wear consistent with a sports chronograph from this period. The case retains its characteristic large 1970s shape and brushed/polished finishing. The tachymeter bezel shows noticeable age-related wear, with light fading and loss of printing in places.
The original black dial is well preserved and remains very attractive, with strong orange details, clean text and nicely aged luminous hour markers. The hands are also in good vintage condition, with matching aged lume. The day-date display is clean and legible, with an English/Kanji day wheel. The original crystal has been polished and presents well, though minor age-related imperfections may still be visible under close inspection.
The watch is fitted with a new black and orange paratrooper-style strap, which suits the sporty design very well. The Seiko 7017 automatic chronograph movement has been serviced and all functions operate correctly. The watch is sold without box and papers and comes with a 3-month functionality guarantee.
