Zaima C-42 — Solid 925 sterling silver flip-top petrol lighter, Japan, c. 1960s–1970s Description A substantial vintage Japanese petrol lighter in solid 925 sterling silver, made by Zaima, model C-42. A well-made and heavy piece, fully functioning and in working condition. The body is entirely covered in closely spaced vertical reeding, providing excellent grip and a refined, graphic appearance. The flip-top lid is hinged and opens smoothly. The side-mounted knurled flint wheel and High/Low (H→L) flame adjustment are both operational. The base plate bears the maker’s mark “ZAIMA C-42” with the flame adjustment legend, and the 925 sterling silver hallmark is stamped to the interior. The reverse of the base plate shows characteristic silver oxidation, confirming solid silver construction throughout. At 102 grams, this is a notably substantial lighter with excellent hand-feel.
