Byzantinisch Glas Amulet - 26 mm (Ohne mindestpreis)

Rare Byzantine Glass Pendant. Historical Period: Late Byzantine Period, circa 614–626 AD Material: Glass Weight: Approximately 16 grams Diameter: Approximately 26 mm Color: Turquoise Blue-Green Description This piece represents a rare Byzantine glass pendant made of translucent turquoise blue-green glass, fitted with an original suspension loop molded as part of the body of the object. This type of religious pendant is among the distinctive devotional items that spread throughout the Levant during the late Byzantine period. At the center of the pendant appears a Christian religious scene within an oval frame, consisting of two standing figures with a cross positioned between them. The scene appears to have a devotional character associated with early Christian belief, where the cross serves as the central element of the design. Figures and Symbols * A standing figure on the left side. * A standing figure on the right side. * A Byzantine cross in the center. * Symbols or abbreviated letters above and below the cross. The scene appears to represent one of the common Christian themes in early Byzantine art and may depict: 1. The Virgin Mary and Christ. 2. Two saints standing on either side of the cross. 3. A commemorative pilgrimage scene to Jerusalem associated with the Church of the Holy Sepulchre or the Holy Cross. The presence of the central cross clearly indicates the devotional Christian nature of the piece. The cross shown in the center resembles a Byzantine cross with nearly equal arms, a symbol of salvation and spiritual victory, widely used in amulets and religious pendants during the 7th century AD. It is likely that the two figures represent the Virgin Mary and a saint, or two sacred figures standing on either side of the cross, a common theme in Byzantine religious art. Condition: Excellent ‏Acquired in 2025 from Demeter Coins Falk Zünkler in Germany. Provenance: The piece was formerly part of a private collection in Spain, having been acquired in 1987 from an antiquities dealer or gallery. This rare piece is accompanied by the original purchase invoice and a certificate of authenticity.
