Verrière Doyen - Vase - FLORALIES - BLUMENSTECKER - Glas, Amethystglas - ART DECO - 1930er Jahre

Art Deco Amethyst Glass Rose Bowl with Original Flower Frog (Pique-Fleurs) Lid Doyen, Belgium, circa 1930s A beautiful and authentic Art Deco rose bowl by the Belgian glassmaker Doyen, dating from the 1930s. Expertly mouth-blown in a delicate amethyst glass, this elegant piece perfectly embodies the refined geometry and timeless sophistication of Belgian Art Deco design. The vase is accompanied by its original metal flower frog (pique-fleurs) lid, an essential feature that allows flowers to be arranged individually while transforming the vessel into a striking decorative centerpiece. The soft amethyst hue subtly changes with the light, creating delicate reflections and a remarkable sense of depth that beautifully showcase the quality of the hand-blown glass. Entirely handmade, the vase displays the natural character of traditional glassmaking. Minor air bubbles, slight variations in thickness, and other small irregularities are inherent to handcrafted production and should be appreciated as signs of authenticity rather than flaws. The vase remains in good antique condition. There are a few small chips around the rim, clearly visible in the photographs. However, these are completely concealed when the original pique-fleurs lid is in place and do not detract from the overall appearance or functionality of the piece. Aside from these minor imperfections, the vase may show light signs of age and use consistent with an object that is nearly a century old. An elegant and increasingly scarce example of Belgian Art Deco glass, complete with its original flower frog (pique-fleurs) lid—a highly decorative and functional collector’s piece that remains as appealing today as when it was created almost 100 years ago. In the early 20th century, Jean-Baptiste Doyen and his son Gaston established a glass factory in Havré-Ville, near Mons, Belgium. Originally named Verreries Gobeleteries d’Havré-Ville, the company specialized in producing high-quality blown glassware, including tableware, lighting, and decorative pieces. Doyen’s work became particularly renowned for its Art Deco designs, featuring elegant shapes, refined engravings, and meticulous craftsmanship. A notable example is a set of mouth-blown glasses adorned with finely scoured olive shapes and intricate fan patterns, showcasing the exquisite attention to detail of the era. Among Doyen’s most celebrated creations is the “Floralies” series, which embodies the refined elegance of Art Deco design. Produced in the early 20th century, these vases are distinguished by their bold geometric forms, intricate detailing, and rich, vibrant colors. One of the most remarkable models, no. 150, crafted in the 1930s, features striking vertical stripes and a distinctive corrugated collar, often produced in warm brown glass. Many pieces from the series still bear the “Floralies” label, preserving their legacy and making them easily recognizable among collectors. Today, Doyen’s glassware remains highly sought after by enthusiasts and collectors of Belgian Art Deco pieces. Their timeless elegance and historical significance continue to make them prized additions to vintage collections, standing as a testament to Belgium’s rich glassmaking tradition and artistic heritage.
