Harpies are winged hybrid creatures from Greek mythology. As daughters of the sea god Thaumas and Electra, they embodied violent storm winds. They were usually depicted as hideous bird-like creatures with the heads of women that, at the behest of the gods, stole food or abducted souls to the underworld.

descent.
