An exceptional and finely decorated small wooden snuff / trinket box, dating from the mid-to-late 18th century. Originated from the Veneto region, Italy. The exterior is beautifully adorned using the historic 'Arte Povera' (Lacca Povera) technique, featuring applied hand-colored engravings (attributed to the famous Remondini printing workshop) under multiple layers of protective natural resin varnish. The highly detailed pastoral and rural scenes depict figures in 18th-century attire, farmhouses, cattle (shepherds, sheep, and pigs), and riders on horseback on the sides. The interior, lid interior, and bottom are entirely finished with the authentic, original oxblood red pigment paint, confirming its pristine, unrestored state. Under UV-light inspection, the varnish shows the correct, uniform milky green-yellow fluorescence characteristic of genuine 18th-century oxidized sandarac/shellac lacquer. - Condition: In good antique condition with a beautiful, authentic patina. It shows normal, age-appropriate wear and minor blemishes.
