The Olympus Pen D, launched in 1962, was the upmarket flagship of Yoshihisa Maitani's celebrated half-frame Pen line, yielding 72 shots from a single 36-exposure roll. It carries a beautifully sharp six-element F.Zuiko 32mm f/1.9 lens, the fastest fitted to any Pen, behind a Copal X leaf shutter that runs to 1/500 second. An uncoupled selenium meter aids exposure, while the ultra-compact body embodies Maitani's goal of a high-quality camera small enough to carry anywhere.
