Offered here is an exceptionally large and impressive endpiece of the lunar meteorite Bechar 003, presented in a premium museum-style display box and accompanied by original sand from the find location.

While lunar meteorites are most commonly available as tiny fragments, small chips or very lightweight slices, this specimen has an entirely different presence. Weighing an impressive 11.00 g, it is not merely a small sample of lunar material, but a substantial, three-dimensional collector’s specimen that immediately commands attention and becomes a centrepiece in any display.

Bechar 003 is officially classified as a lunar feldspathic breccia. Its large prepared display surface reveals a fascinating and highly contrasting structure: numerous bright and white feldspathic clasts are embedded within a dark grey to almost black matrix. Larger grey areas, deep-black rock fragments and occasional finely reflective mineral inclusions add further complexity and visual depth.

Thanks to the exceptional size of this specimen, its intricate brecciated structure can be appreciated particularly well. The surface resembles an abstract lunar landscape—dark, ancient and crossed by bright fragments of the Moon’s primordial crust. Under changing light, new details, contrasts and subtle structures continually become visible.

As an endpiece, this specimen combines the best of both worlds. The large prepared face provides a direct view into the interior of the lunar rock, while the reverse and broad outer edges preserve a substantial portion of its natural exterior. Its beige, ochre and brown tones create a striking contrast with the dark interior and emphasise the meteorite’s original three-dimensional character.

The visible brecciated structure records an extraordinary geological history. Over immense periods of time, lunar rocks were shattered by powerful impacts, mixed together and compacted into new solid material. A later impact eventually launched this rock from the Moon into space, before it completed its cosmic journey and arrived on Earth.
