A classic vintage Seamaster elevated by an outstandingly preserved dial. This piece pairs a highly vibrant silver sunburst finish with the reliable Caliber 565 automatic movement, presenting a beautifully honest and capable daily wearer for the vintage enthusiast.
Brand: Omega
Model: Seamaster
Reference Number: 166.037 SP
Serial Number: 29845564
Movement: Caliber 565 automatic, 24 jewels
Dial: Silver sunburst with applied indices and framed date
Case Size: 34 mm (excluding the crown)
Case Material: Steel
Production Year: Circa 1970
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. Timegrapher: +3+5s/day, performing remarkably well.
Dial and Hands
The silver sunburst dial survives in highly preserved condition, remaining exceptionally clean and vibrant with minimal to no visible spotting or staining. It features applied indices with black inserts, an applied Omega logo, and a cleanly framed date window at three o'clock. The outer luminous plots remain intact. The stick hands, featuring black inserts and luminous material, present an original appearance with light age-appropriate patina. Under magnification, light oxidation and micro-dust are visible on the hands, while the sweep seconds hand shows minor aging.
Case and Crystal
The steel case features a polished smooth integrated bezel and brushed and polished lugs. It displays honest vintage wear with well-preserved geometry, showing light surface scratches and handling marks consistent with age across the case and bezel. The caseback exterior is detailed with a crisp Seamaster seahorse medallion. The watch is fitted with a signed scalloped edge Omega crown. The domed acrylic crystal is clear, with no major scratches, crazing, or chips visible.
Movement
Powering the watch is the Omega Caliber 565 automatic movement, featuring 24 jewels and the copper-colored plating characteristic of vintage Omega production. The movement appears generally clean, showing light surface wear on the rotor and some dirt or grime visible around the outer case perimeter where the caseback seats. The timegrapher recorded +3+5s/day. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a period correct steel mesh bracelet that suits the watch aesthetic perfectly. The sliding clasp mechanism is stamped 18 m/m, though no clear Omega signature is visible on the clasp. The bracelet accommodates a maximum wrist size of 19 cm.
Condition
Excellent vintage condition. The exceptionally clean dial is a strong focal point, retaining its intact luminous plots and vibrant sunburst finish. The steel case maintains well-preserved geometry alongside honest surface wear and scratches appropriate for its age. The domed acrylic crystal is clear, and the caseback medallion remains notably crisp. Supported by excellent timegrapher results, the movement is performing very strongly.
Dimensions
The case size is 34 mm (excluding the crown).
Remarks
The remarkable preservation of the silver sunburst dial immediately sets this piece apart. Combined with a robust automatic movement and a crisp caseback medallion, this Seamaster offers tremendous charm and daily reliability for the discerning vintage collector.
History
The Omega Seamaster line, introduced in 1948, was designed to provide robust, capable timepieces for active individuals.
