Richard Hutten Handle with Care Teapot, 2014 Within the New Originals project, Hutten took a classic Chinese teapot and gave it a bold, modern twist. The original was cast iron, but Hutten swapped it for sleek porcelain, making it lighter and fresher. Instead of the usual delicate curve of the handle, Richard Hutten borrowed the grip from a good old-fashioned clothes iron. Bright red and easy to hold, it’s designed to keep your hands safe as you pour hot tea into your mug. The original is made of cast iron, this teapot has been modernized and made of porcelain. The teapot also comes with a handle that you may recognize from an iron you use for your clothes. Richard Hutten started his own design studio in 1991, working on a variety of projects such as: furniture-, product-, interior- and exhibition design. He is one of the most internationally successful Dutch designers. His work is part of the permanent collections of, among others, Centraal Museum Utrecht, Stedelijk Museum of Modern Art Amsterdam, Vitra Museum Weil am Rhein and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Philippe Starck used some of Hutten’s designs for the interiors of the Delano Hotel Miami and the Mondrian Hotel Los Angeles.
