Altgriechisch Bronze Arrowhead - 47 mm (Ohne mindestpreis)

Ancient Greek Bronze Arrowhead Culture / Period: Ancient Greek Date / Period: 10th–6th century B.C. Material: Bronze Dimensions: 47 mm Condition: Good condition No shipping outside the European Union. Provenance information: Object Registration ID: 746 The current owner purchased this object from a reputable Dutch numismatic auction house in Schiedam, the Netherlands. Due to privacy regulations, the name of the previous owner could not be disclosed. No further information concerning the earlier ownership history of the object was available from the previous owner. Background Information: This cast bronze arrowhead features a long, slender blade with a pronounced central rib and a socketed base fitted with a surviving side barb, designed to secure the head firmly to a wooden shaft. The aerodynamic form provided excellent penetrating ability while maintaining the strength required for military and hunting use. Socketed bronze arrowheads of this type were widely employed throughout the Greek world during the Early Iron Age and Archaic period. Archery played an important role both in warfare and in hunting, and standardised projectile points such as this were produced in large numbers by specialist bronze workers. Their carefully balanced proportions reflect the advanced metallurgical skills developed during this period. Similar arrowheads have been recovered from settlements, sanctuaries, battlefields, and burial contexts across the Greek world and neighbouring regions, illustrating the widespread use of bows and the exchange of military technology throughout the eastern Mediterranean. Bronze remained an important material for projectile points because of its ease of casting, durability, and reliable performance. Dating to the 10th–6th century B.C., this arrowhead belongs to a formative period in ancient Greek history, when warfare, hunting, and organised metalworking became increasingly sophisticated. It forms a tangible connection to the ancient world, where weapons of this kind served both practical and military purposes in everyday life."
