17. – 18. Jahrhundert Bronze Pendant - 32 mm (Ohne mindestpreis)

17th–18th Century Bronze Religious Pendant Culture / Period: 17th - 18th century Date / Period: 17th - 18th century Material: Bronze Dimensions: 32 mm Condition: Good condition, with age-related wear, patina and surface deposits No shipping outside the European Union. Due to complex export regulations concerning cultural goods, this item cannot be shipped outside the EU. Please ensure you have a delivery address within the European Union before placing a bid. Provenance information: Object Registration ID: 880 The current owner (S.N.J. S.) purchased the pendant from R.H. G. in Dordrecht. The previous owner, R.H. G. from Dordrecht (The Netherlands), stated that the object had been in his collection since the 1990s. According to the previous owner, the object had previously been in a private collection in The Netherlands since the 1990s. No further information concerning the earlier ownership history of the object was available from the previous owner. Background Information: This small bronze religious pendant dates to the 17th–18th century. It has an integral suspension loop and an elongated body with raised decoration. The surviving loop shows that it was intended to be worn or suspended, most likely from a cord, chain or rosary. Religious pendants and devotional objects formed an important part of personal religious practice in Early Modern Europe. They could depict saints, sacred symbols or other Christian imagery and were carried or worn as visible expressions of faith and personal devotion. Due to the worn condition of the decoration, the precise religious representation on this example cannot be identified with certainty. Such small devotional objects were commonly produced in cast copper alloys and distributed through churches, pilgrimage centres, markets and specialist craftsmen. Their portable nature allowed them to become intimate objects of everyday religious life. This pendant provides a tangible connection to personal devotion and Christian material culture during the 17th and 18th centuries, when small religious objects accompanied their owners in daily life."
