Tasting Notes (2020 Vintage)
Visual Profile: Bright and ethereal ruby red, tending towards transparent garnet.
Nose: Extremely floral, refined, and expressive. Intense nuances of violet, dried rose petals, red currant, and wild strawberry emerge, accompanied by notes of lime blossom, camphor, mint, and licorice root. With oxygenation, it develops balsamic tones and hints of pipe tobacco and subtle spices.
Palate: An entry of extraordinary purity and elegance rather than pure power. The tannic texture is dense and smooth, supported by a vibrant acidity that provides great freshness.
Finish: Very long and persistent, with a rhythmic return of mineral notes, red fruits, and a balsamic and spicy finish.

Facts About the Producer and the Vintage
The dogma of the single blend: Maria Teresa Mascarello (daughter of the legendary Bartolo) faithfully continues the family philosophy: producing a single Barolo. Instead of vinifying the individual vineyards (crus) separately, the grapes are blended before fermentation to achieve balance and completeness.
The vineyards and the new 2020 vintage: The classic blend historically draws from the famous Cannubi and Rue crus in Barolo, and Rocche dell'Annunziata in La Morra. Starting with the 2020 harvest, the historic San Lorenzo vineyard (in Barolo) has returned to the blend after being replanted.
Ultra-traditional technique: Vinification takes place strictly in concrete tanks with very long submerged-cap macerations (up to 50-55 days in 2020), followed by approximately three years of aging in large Slovenian oak barrels only, categorically rejecting new barriques or modern technology.
"No Barrique, No Berlusconi": Bartolo Mascarello has gone down in history not only for the quality of his wines but also for the famous hand-designed labels in the 1990s and 2000s with the slogan "No Barrique, No Berlusconi," a testament to his fierce defense of Piedmontese artisanal tradition and his freedom of thought.
