Wikingerzeit Bronze Ein einzigartiges, seltenes Fafnir-Drachen-Amulett. (Ohne mindestpreis)

A rare and exceptional artifact—an authentic Viking Age bronze amulet, presumably dating to the 10th or 11th century. This object is a rare example of Viking Age pagan art. For the Vikings, such an amulet was not merely an ornament. It was a powerful protective charm symbolizing strength, cunning, and control over wealth—albeit with a warning against Fafnir’s greed. The amulet is crafted in the shape of a writhing dragon, unmistakably recognizable as Fafnir from Old Norse mythology. The master carver who created this amulet skillfully captured the dragon's serpentine, twisting nature. The amulet's form resembles a rune or a stylized knot, a characteristic feature of Scandinavian art from that period. The dragon's head retains distinct, expressive features, while its body is covered with an abstract pattern reminiscent of scales. The amulet is made of cast bronze. The patina of age covering the entire surface attests to its antiquity and authenticity. It features a deep, dark hue with flecks of malachite green in the recesses, lending the artifact a distinctive historical charm. The item is in excellent condition for an artifact of its age.Signs of wear consistent with age and use. Wearable. 100% original. Look at many photos for your own impression. The amulet comes with a faux leather jewelry cord. Dimensions: 51 mm x 26 mm. Weight: 20.12 grams. The item was purchased in 2015 in Barcelona, Spain from G.A. as part of a private Spanish collection dating back to the 1980s.
