The Fujica 35-EE, introduced in 1961, is one of the most distinctive Japanese rangefinders of its day. A selenium cell behind the honeycomb grille on the front drives its EE (electric eye) shutter-priority automatic exposure with no battery at all, while the fast Fujinon 4.5cm f/1.9 lens sits in a Fuji Synchro-MXL leaf shutter. Its unusual layout, with a thumb-wheel focusing control on the back and a bottom-mounted advance lever, gives it a character all its own. Solidly built in chrome and black, it is an elegant and characterful camera from the early years of automatic exposure. Important — please read carefully: The selenium meter reads 2 to 3 stops bright, and automatic exposure will overexpose unless compensated. Please review the photos and consider this before bidding. The selenium meter responds, but reads about +2.1 EV at EV12 and +3.0 EV at EV15 — see Known Issues. No battery is required: the selenium cell powers the meter. The viewfinder and lens have been cleaned internally. Measured Performance We check these cameras on a shutter tester rather than by ear, and we publish what we measured: - Light meter accuracy — EV12: 2.1 OVER / EV15: 3.0 OVER Some of these deviations exceed what negative film can absorb — please read the Known Issues section and allow for them when shooting. The selenium meter reads 2 to 3 stops bright, so the automatic (EE) mode will overexpose. Set the film-speed dial 2 to 3 stops higher to compensate, or use an external meter with manual aperture and shutter settings.
