Blue and White Kraak ‘Crow’ Deep Cup China, Wanli period (1573–1619), A finely painted blue and white Kraak porcelain deep cup from the Wanli period, decorated in the characteristic paneled style associated with late Ming export ware. The interior well is painted with a bird, often referred to as a “crow”, standing on rockwork, rendered in expressive underglaze cobalt blue. Surrounding the central medallion are eight elongated panels filled with fruiting branches, a typical Kraak device creating rhythm and structure within the composition. The exterior is further adorned with alternating panels depicting, butterflies, fruits, bamboo, and flowering plants, all executed with lively brushwork and balanced ornamentation. According to Maura Rinaldi, this bowl belongs to the Shape IV.1 dating 1605-15 Dimensions: W12,5 × H8 cm Condition: One hairline crack and some tiny rim frits, typical of kraakware from this period.
