Frühes Mittelalter / Wikingerzeit Bronze „Das Heilige Weibliche“ — vulva-förmiges Fruchtbarkeitsamulett aus Silber mit einer Länge von 60 cm (Ohne mindestpreis)

A remarkable Early Medieval bronze amulet, distinguished by its strongly defined vulva-shaped composition, traditionally interpretable within the broader symbolism of fertility, femininity, birth and the regenerative forces of life. The pendant has an elongated oval-to-teardrop outline with a pointed lower termination. Its central decoration consists of a prominent twisted, rope-like vertical ridge, enclosed within a raised almond-shaped border. Together, these elements create a pronounced vulvar form. A succession of rounded bosses frames the outer edge, giving the small pendant an unusually rich and tactile appearance. Female and fertility symbolism has extremely ancient roots, and representations or abstract references to the reproductive body may have served as expressions of fertility, protection, sexuality, childbirth and regeneration. In an Early Medieval context, however, the precise significance of an individual object cannot normally be reconstructed with certainty, and the vulvar interpretation of this example should therefore be regarded as an attribution based upon its form and decoration. The deeply modelled ornament is enhanced by the naturally aged bronze surface, with dark brown tones, areas of green patination and warmer exposed highlights. Culture/Period: Early Medieval, attributed Date: approximately 8th–11th century AD, attributed Object: Amulet / pendant Material: Bronze Length: approx. 28 mm Form: Vulva-shaped / fertility-symbol form Decoration: Central twisted-rope ridge enclosed by raised almond-shaped borders and surrounded by rounded bosses Symbolism: Traditionally interpretable as fertility, femininity, birth, protection and regeneration Condition: Age-related wear and patination; the principal decorative elements remain clearly visible. Please refer carefully to the photographs. Presentation: Fitted with a modern suspension ring and chain for wearable presentation; these modern elements are not ancient. Despite its modest 28 mm size, the strongly sculptural design gives the pendant considerable presence — an evocative representation of the sacred feminine and the enduring cycle of life.
