It is an authentic product of the Aichi Prefecture Shibori Industrial Cooperative, unused and still in its original box with tag attached. About the Shibori Pattern The design depicts thick ropes tied into a knot, cascading downward — a bold and dynamic composition achieved through traditional Arimatsu-Narumi shibori techniques. Each small white circular motif is created by binding the fabric tightly with thread (a technique called kukuri) before dyeing, so that the bound areas resist the indigo dye. This produces the delicate, radiating patterns seen within each circle. These circular "shibori beads" are repeated vertically to create the textured, rope-like columns, while multiple ropes cross and merge near the top to form a powerful knot motif. The fabric retains a subtle three-dimensional texture (shibo) left behind after the binding threads are removed, along with soft gradations of indigo blue — hallmarks of genuine hand-shibori work that cannot be reproduced by machine printing. This piece showcases the skilled, labor-intensive craftsmanship of artisan dyers. About the Dyeing Process This piece is dyed using authentic plant-based (kusaki-zome) dyes, including sappanwood, walnut, mukuroji, yasha, cloves, kariyasu, plum, and persimmon tannin extract, combined with animal-derived dyes such as lac, kermes, and cochineal. The result is a rich, layered depth of color with the natural variation characteristic of hand-dyeing.
