Brainfever – Capture The Night (Mausoleum Records – SKULL 8362) made in Belgium 1984 original 1st pressing LP | vinyl: excellent (2x visible / feelable marks, which hardly effect play) | cover: NM (near mint) comes with printed lyric sheet German heavy metal band formed in 1982. Brainfever, a band that I had on my radar for god knows how long at this point, but never really got into them due to the bad impression it gave me at first listen. While it is far from being the only band that ended up being that way for me, the main thing here is that despite my attempts at giving them chances, the music never managed to catch my attention to the point where I was like "Yeah, that's great stuff". That being said, after getting back into casual reviewing, I finally took proper time to give this a good listen, and as a summary, the band's music is not anything exceptional or worth praising, but it's not bad either. Being from Germany, they are from a metal music-rich environment, and were quite early comers into it as well, since the first material released dates back to 1983. However, if you compare these guys to other peers, such as Running Wild or Stormwitch, for instance, you will immediately notice a much more laid-back sound and lack of heaviness, I'd add. The general direction taken by Brainfever was mainly traditional heavy metal with some early power metal vibes, which is usually something that goes right into my taste alley. Still, they never managed to capture (no puns intended) my attention enough, as I have quite a few issues with their material that I could hardly get past. While it isn't anything essential to get into, there is still some good stuff to be heard in their short catalog, even if there's no dramatic musical direction change to be heard over the years.
