Römisches Reich Museumqualität – Seltenes mit Widerhaken versehener Wurfspeer-Kopf – Außergewöhnliches militärisches (Ohne mindestpreis)

A piece of the past, made to be worn Museum Quality – Rare Ancient Roman Barbed Javelin Head – Exceptional Military Projectile – ca. 1st–4th Century AD Object Type: Barbed Javelin / Light Spear Projectile Head Culture: Ancient Roman Period: Roman Imperial Period, ca. 1st–4th Century AD Material: Metal Alloy Technique: Forged / Hammered and Hand-Finished Form: Elongated Triangular Point with Long Tang and Paired Barbs Military Context: Iaculum / Hasta Velitaris Tradition Functional Context: Thrown Projectile Weapon / Telum Symbolic Context: Virtus, Militia, Dignitas — Martial Valour, Military Identity and Status Condition: Exceptionally Well-Preserved; Museum-Quality Archaeological Appearance -Cultural and Iconographic Assessment Certificate: available upon request before shipment (PDF format) -All shipments are sent fully insured -During photography, a warm-toned lighting setup reminiscent of museum display illumination was used to emphasize the object's surface details and historic character in a natural manner. Dimensions Height: 68.35 mm ± Width: 16.83 mm ± Weight: 17.22 g ± Description This exceptionally well-preserved Roman projectile head displays an unusual martial form, combining a long narrow tang with a sharply tapering triangular point and two pronounced backward-projecting barbs. Its compact dimensions and aerodynamic profile place it within the broader Roman tradition of light thrown weapons, or tela, including the iaculum and hasta velitaris. Comparable Roman Imperial projectile points preserved in museum collections display quadrangular tangs, faceted points and barbed constructions, with documented examples measuring approximately 6.5–9.6 cm. Some are specifically recorded as hammered manufacture, providing a significant technological parallel for the present piece. The strongly defined barbs would have increased retention following penetration, while the extended tang provided secure attachment to a wooden shaft. Its distinctive construction, remarkable preservation and powerful association with militia and virtus give the object an impressive museum-quality archaeological presence. Information The offered object was acquired in 2026 through an auction associated with A.N. Auction House in Germany and was transferred to us in 2026 by its previous owner, N.A., based in the Netherlands. The object has been documented using high-resolution equipment; no intervention has been made to its form or structural integrity, and only limited color-balance adjustment has been applied. Upon request, museum-standard technical photographs may be provided during the auction; if requested prior to shipment, an expert report and a signed ownership document issued in the buyer’s name can be supplied in PDF format within 3–5 business days. Statements regarding dating, function, symbolic interpretation, and material identification represent high-probability academic assessments based on typological comparisons, parallels in museum collections, and expert opinion; definitive conclusions require advanced laboratory analysis and fall outside the scope of the platform’s sales process. Prospective buyers are advised to evaluate the images in conjunction with the stated measurements, as high-resolution photography may influence perceived scale. Throughout the presentation and sales process, principles of scholarly consistency, transparency, and good faith are observed, and no object is knowingly offered as a copy or imitation.
