A very elegant and impressive French ormolu (gilt bronze) and Carrara marble clock with bird in Louis XVI style, dated to the 2nd half of the 19th century. Please, check all 42 pictures before placing a bid. Rare model preserved in excellent condition!
Origin: France, 19th century, late Napoleon III (1848-1870) period.
Architectural case made of superbly casted, chiseled and gilt bronze, movement under the arched top placed on a large column with two volutes on sides, a bird (pigeon?) sitting on flowers and foliage as a top finial. Shaped white marble base with three neo-classical gilt bronze mounts in front, all supported on six feet.
Creamy white enamel dial with black Roman numerals for hours and black Arabic for minutes (each 15), decorated with star-shaped colourful flowers and golden dots. Excellent quality pierced and gilt hands, finely chiseled. Dial protected with a glass in a round frame with dots on the edge.
Parisian, good technical quality two train movement by Adolphe Mougin, stamped with serial number - 1432. The number is repeated on the pendulum's lense. In lower part of the back-plate pendulum's parametres: 3/3 and round stamp: AD MOUGIN / DEUX MEDAILLES with a star in the middle. Winding key included.
Dimensions: height - 28 cm; depth - 12,8 cm; width - 19,8 cm. Weight - 4,2 kg (!).
Conditions report: case in virtually perfect condition with minor signs of age and minimal wear to gilding, mostly in convex places and on back door protecting the movement. Very clean. Dial in excellent condition. Few tiny chips at the marble, fortunetely mostly on the back edge. Movement recently overhauled by clockmaster, works and strikes. Clock comes with pendulum and winding key.
