Seiko - Super - Ohne mindestpreis - No.1721 - Herren - 1950-1959

Seiko Super Chronometer, manual winding, case No.1721 – seldom-seen 1950s vintage with two-tone silver dial, gilt Arabic numerals and hands, centre seconds, stainless steel case, on a replacement black leather strap. PLEASE NOTE: the dial shows clear age-related patina: mottled and speckled oxidation across the outer ring, fine scratches across the raised centre disc, a dark grey corrosion patch and ring around the centre hand post, and small dark and reddish spots near 12, 2 and 5 o'clock. The domed acrylic crystal has light surface scratches. The case has light scratches and some dark residue inside the lug tips. The strap and buckle carry no Seiko markings and are not original. The caseback carries no serial number, so the exact production year cannot be confirmed; the model dates from the 1950s. Please check the photos carefully before bidding. Overview A 1950s Seiko Super with chronometer-marked dial, a hand-wound dress watch from the early years of Seiko's post-war wristwatch production. The Seiko Super, introduced in 1950, was Seiko's first centre-seconds wristwatch and the predecessor of the Seiko Marvel; it was made only for a few years before being replaced, and examples with the CHRONOMETER designation on the dial are seldom seen today, making this an uncommon piece for collectors of early post-war Japanese watches. The two-tone silver dial has a polished raised centre medallion and a matte outer ring with a printed railroad minute track and numerals every five minutes, applied gilt Arabic numerals at 12, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 o'clock with gilt dart markers at the other hours, and is signed CHRONOMETER / SEIKO at 12 o'clock and SUPER / ANTIMAGNETIC / WATER PROTECTED at 6 o'clock. Gilt dauphine-style hour and minute hands and a slim centre seconds hand with a red tip. Round polished stainless steel case with a stepped two-ring bezel, faceted angular lugs, a large fluted onion-style crown at 3 o'clock and a snap-on caseback. Fitted with a black crocodile-grain leather strap, 16 mm, with a plain polished steel pin buckle.
