Thonet - Marcel Kammerer - Bank - Variante 574 C - Holz - Zweisitzer-Sofa

Antique Marcel Kammerer 2-Seater Sofa – Model A 574 C Variant – Attributed to Thonet – Solid Oak & Velvet – Austria, c. 1905 Object: 2-Seater Settee / Compact Sofa Manufacturer: Attributed to Thonet Designer: Marcel Kammerer (Model A 574 C variant) Design Period: 1900 - 1919 (c. 1905) Country of Origin: Austria Provenance: Acquired from a private collection in Austria Material: Premium Solid Oak (Quarter-sawn / Radial cut), Crimson velvet upholstery Condition: Excellent – Professionally and thoroughly restored An exceptional and highly important architectural 2-seater settee from the pinnacle of the Vienna Secession avant-garde (c. 1905), designed by renowned architect and Otto Wagner student, Marcel Kammerer (Model A 574 C variant) and attributed to Thonet. The piece is characterized by its refined modernist line, upholstered solid backrest, and sweeping curved armrests. This sofa represents a luxury, custom-ordered cabinet-maker execution. While standard catalog editions were commonly mass-produced in steam-bent beechwood, this elite piece was crafted from premium quarter-sawn solid oak, beautifully highlighting the natural "tiger stripe" medullary rays of the wood. Every structural detail speaks to master historical craftsmanship, documented in the macro photographs provided: 3-Piece Segmented Handrail & Joinery: The broad curved upper handrail and backrest frame are expertly constructed from 3 solid shaped oak segments, seamlessly connected using traditional historical finger-joints and internal wooden dowels to maintain perfect curvature and strength without warping. Hardware & Reinforcements: Underneath the frame, the structure is reinforced by original stepped solid oak brackets, secured using authentic historical flat-head iron screws that have oxidized naturally over decades. Base Finish: The lower legs feature structural cutouts prepared for historical brass or bronze sabots. Restoration & Labels Note: Due to multiple professional restorations over its long history, original paper labels or stamps have been lost. The sofa has recently undergone a comprehensive, premium professional restoration to return to full structural and aesthetic glory. The internal seating structure has been completely renewed with premium webbing and springs, finished in high-end crimson/burgundy velvet with matching textile braided trim. Total Length: 137 cm (Seat length: 125 cm) Total Height: 74 cm (Seat height: 43 cm) Total Depth: 55 cm (Set depth: 45 cm) Overall condition is evaluated as Excellent, taking into account the recent comprehensive professional restoration, new premium velvet upholstery, preserved solid timber structure, and high stability. Shipping: Transport is usually handled via a private white-glove transport service. Following the successful payment of the lot, I will contact the buyer directly to arrange and schedule the delivery details. For this reason, buyers located in major European cities or capital cities are strongly encouraged, as direct private routes are readily and reliably available there.
