Sasaniden Bronze Schüssel (Ohne mindestpreis)

A cast and hammered Sasanian bronze bowl featuring a hemispherical container with a rounded base. Its slightly convex walls slant upwards, leading to a wide mouth. The rim is very slightly reinforced with a band of thicker bronze, creating a subtle ridge alongside a horizontal incised band below the mouth on the interior. The bowl features earthly encrustations and a green patination to the surface, all consistent with age. There is a large crack down the side of the bowl leading to a chip near the base. A smaller crack to the other side of the wall. Please note, this piece is delicate due to its condition. The Sassanians or Sasanians succeeded the Achaemenid Persians, establishing an Empire which, at its peak, expanded from the Euphrates to the Indus Rivers and included modern-day Armenia and Georgia. Sassanian art borrowed from Near Eastern and Greco-Roman traditions, and adapted the significance of these cultures’ iconography to the local repertoire. Measurements: (circa) W 18.1cm x H 5cm Provenance: Ex London collection of Near Eastern objects, pre 1996.
