Wanduhr - JAPY FRERES - - Bronze - 1850-1900 - Bäckerei-Uhr (Boulangère)

Bakery Clock (Boulangère) - Japy Frères - Iron - 1850-1900 Description: French “boulangère” (bakery clock) wall clock by Japy Frères, so named for its bun-like round shape. Late 19th century. Round painted sheet-metal case in dark green with floral decoration (roses, buttercups, leaves, a dragonfly and a butterfly). Cast decorative mounts at the top, sides and bottom. Cream-amber dial with black Arabic numerals, a decorative central rosette and a relief bezel with a beaded edge. Black ornamental hands. Mechanical brass movement, key-wound, time only (no strike). The movement has been serviced (overhauled) and the clock runs well. The back plate bears an engraved JFC monogram with scrolls and four stars above, the trademark of Japy Frères & Cie. Japy Frères, founded in 1806 and based in Beaucourt, was one of the major French clock and watch manufacturers of the 19th century. The firm grew from the industrialised production methods pioneered by Frédéric Japy (1749-1812). Condition: Wear to the lacquer and painted decoration, and scratches, consistent with age (see photos). Origin: France Key: Included Hanging chain: Not included
