For sale: an authentic piece of military and numismatic history—a "trench art" lighter, handcrafted during the First World War (WWI, 1914–1918).
This unique specimen is constructed by joining two historical bronze coins, affixed to a circular brass body:
Side A: A 2-centavos coin (Republic of Argentina), featuring an allegorical depiction of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap ("Liberty Head").
Side B: A coin from the era of Queen Victoria (Great Britain)—the "Veiled Head" (or "Old Head") variety, minted exclusively between 1895 and 1901.
Condition and Technical Details:
Authenticity: A 100% original, period-accurate, one-of-a-kind piece—not a modern replica.
Mechanism: The ignition mechanism is exposed; the serrated steel wheel, the flint housing, and the original fabric wick are fully visible, lending the piece a raw, authentic, industrial aesthetic.
Patina: It retains a superb, natural historical patina, accumulated over more than a century. The piece has not been chemically cleaned or polished, leaving the metal exactly as it has aged through time.
