Altes Ägypten, Neues Reich Speckstein Zahnbelag-Siegel-Amulett (Ohne mindestpreis)
A fine Ancient Egyptian steatite plaque bead carved on both sides. The amulet is rectangular in shape, and features a stylised depiction of a a horned animal on one side. The reverse features a group of incised hieroglyphs, most of them worn and indistinguishable. One hieroglyph remains clear, the ‘mn’ draughtboard. The plaque is perforated horizontally for suspension. Earthly encrustations and signs of wear as consistent with age, such as chipping, scratches, and pitting.
The Egyptians wore amulets alongside other pieces of jewellery. They were decorative, but also served a practical purpose, being considered to bestow power and protection upon the wearer. Many of the amulets have been found inside the wrappings of mummies, as they were used to prepare the deceased for the afterlife.
