Leonidas - Chronograph - Landeron 48 - Unisex - 1900-1949

From Leonidas, one of the historic names in Swiss chronograph manufacture—famously merging with Heuer in 1964 to create the legendary "Heuer-Leonidas" brand—this is a rare and collectible Dual-Register Chronograph dating back to the 1940s. Capturing the military and pilot watch design language of the World War II era, it features a 35 mm (excluding crown) case, a factory-original ivory/cream dial, radium-style Arabic numeral indices, heat-treated blued steel hands, dual-register layout, and is powered by the cam-lever Landeron Caliber 48 hand-wound movement, offering authentic mid-century character on the wrist. Case Dimensions & Construction Case Dimensions: Approximately 35 mm across excluding the winding crown (approx. 37.5–38 mm including crown / 42.5–43 mm vertical lug-to-lug length / 18 mm lug width). Classic 1940s chronograph proportions with curved lugs and a domed acrylic crystal provide a comfortable and balanced wrist presence. Case, Pushers & Crown: Chrome-plated case body paired with a solid stainless steel screw-down caseback ("CHROMIUM STEEL BACK"). Features a knurled winding crown at 3 o'clock alongside period-correct mushroom/pump-style chronograph pushers at 2 and 4 o'clock. Given around 80 years of age and past use, vintage hairline scratches, slight plating wear, surface patina, and minor contact marks are present on the case flanks, bezel, and lugs. Crystal: Domed acrylic (plexi) crystal. Superficial hairline marks and light age-related scratches are visible on the crystal face. Caseback: Original solid stainless steel screw-down caseback. The exterior retains a satin-brushed finish and the clear engraving "CHROMIUM STEEL BACK". The interior features circular perlage finishing, the "SWISS" hallmark, and serial number 738343. Dial & Subdial Details Dial Condition: 100% factory-original (unrestored / non-redial) ivory / light cream military chronograph dial. Displaying the clean "LEONIDAS" signature and an outer track with fine chronometric seconds and telemeter/tachymeter scales. Indices & Handset: Open-style Arabic numerals showing warm, natural vintage patina. Complemented by heat-treated blued steel sword hands and matching blued subdial indicators. Registers: Running Small Seconds Subdial at 9 o'clock, 30-Minute Chronograph Counter at 3 o'clock, Central slender chronograph sweep seconds hand. Movement & Strap Details Movement: Authentic Swiss-made, 17-jewel, cam-lever operated Landeron Caliber 48 manual-wind chronograph movement. Retains the original regulator stamp ("A / R - F / S"), balance assembly, and clean chronograph bridges. Operating via the signature Landeron sequence: the top pusher starts the chronograph, while the lower pusher stops and resets it. Operational Status: The Landeron 48 caliber . Strap & Buckle Disclosure: Fitted with a brand-new textured olive/khaki-green leather strap and a steel pin buckle that pairs naturally with the ivory dial. Please note that the strap and buckle are non-original (aftermarket). Please Note: Vintage Leonidas chronographs made prior to the 1964 Heuer merger hold a respected place in vintage horology, particularly for their military and aviation lineage. Age-related hairline scratches and chrome plating wear on the case, surface marks on the plexi crystal, and the aftermarket strap . Due to its 1940s vintage nature, no water resistance warranty is provided. For cross-border or international shipments, any potential customs duties, taxes, or additional clearance fees remain entirely the responsibility of the buyer. Please inspect all macro photographs thoroughly prior to purchasing.
