About the Artist

Menyhért Tóth (1904–1980) was one of the most distinctive and important figures in 20th-century Hungarian painting.

He studied at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts, where his teachers included János Vaszary and István Réti.

His artistic work is characterised by a highly individual visual language, rich symbolism, a distinctive colour palette and a profound connection with nature.

In recognition of his artistic achievements, he received the title of Meritorious Artist in 1976 and was posthumously awarded the prestigious Kossuth Prize in 1990.
