Granaat Bohemian garnet brooch, gilt metal (tombak), Czech origin, Edwardian period ca. 1900–1915, unisex, 7.6 g, 47 × 18 × 15 mm, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Antique Edwardian Bohemian garnet brooch – gilded metal from the early 19th century
Ancient Bohemian garnet brooch from the Edwardian period (circa 1900–1915) is an elegant example of refined jewelry art from Central Europe at the beginning of the 20th century. The brooch is made of gilded metal and richly set with deep red Bohemian garnets, carefully placed in closed settings.
The design features a symmetrical flower and rosette composition, characteristic of the transition from late Victorian to Edwardian jewelry design. The sparkling garnets are faceted and set close together, creating an intense, warm color play that comes to life beautifully with movement.
Bohemian garnet jewelry was traditionally crafted in the region around Bohemia, where the extraction and processing of garnets have played an important role since the 18th century. These pieces of jewelry were popular among European aristocracy and the affluent middle class and were often worn at formal occasions.
The rear side shows a classic antique pin construction, appropriate for the dating, and confirms the authentic character of the object.
Bohemian garnet brooches from this period are becoming increasingly rare, especially in this complete and harmonious design. Small irregularities in cutting or patina are inherent to antique jewelry and emphasize their authenticity and historical value.
Dimensions: L 47 mm x W 18 mm x H 15 mm
Weight: 7.6 grams
