Namba Chiyo 千代女 (1703–1775), also known as Chiyo-ni 千代尼, was a celebrated haiku poet and Buddhist nun of the Edo period, widely regarded as one of the greatest female poets in Japanese literary history. Her work embodies a refined sensitivity to nature and spiritual depth, often interwoven with delicate imagery and emotional subtlety. In addition to her poetry, Chiyo-ni was a skilled painter whose works express the same grace found in her verse. Complete with double wooden tomobako 供箱 (storage box). When shipped, we will include a certificate of authenticity. Important notice: Please note that the ivory roller ends (jikusaki) will be removed before shipping or handover, and are therefore not included in this offer.
