The back of this print: with a sheet of drawings by an Osaka artist, most likely sketches by Hokuei himself. Hokuei is a major artist of the Osaka school. In his 13 year career, Hokuei completed just 150 prints, both single-sheet designs and polyptychs. He was the sole pupil of Hokushu to remain active into the 1830s. Signed "Hokuei ga". Published by Tenmaya Kihei, with seal used 1826-1836. On a Japanese washi paper, in good condition. Colors in good condition. Old horizontal fold. Backed with a washi paper sheet with drawings (also by Hokuei??) Size: 23.8x 35.5cm (oban). Not in any online collection. Will be sent under card-boards, well protected, and fully insured.
