A beautiful wide and tall Gifu wooden kimono ishô’dansu 着物衣装箪笥 (cabinet of drawers for kimono) in three sections, fully restored, cleaned, and waxed. Crafted from indigenous kiri (paulownia) wood, varnished in a warm umber-brown hue. The upper section is configured with a pair of sliding doors fitted with circular thumb grips decorated with a seigaiha (wave) pattern. They open to a shelved storage space on the left and two small drawers on the right. Below are three adjacent drawers. The middle section contains three full-width drawers, and the bottom section is arranged with five drawers of varying size. All drawers run smoothly and are fitted with warabite-shaped bail handles with subtle chiselled detailing, paired with small circular lock plates. The sides include retractable pole-carrying handles that secure the upper sections and allow for easy transport. The back panel of the upper section bears a label: “Certified by the Gifu Tansu and Nagamochi Crafts Association.” 岐阜簞笥長持工業組合證. Period: Japan – Mid-Shôwa period (Mid-20th century) Dimensions: Height 158 cm (T 54.7 cm, M 59 cm, B 44.3 cm), Width 115.3 cm, Depth 44.3 cm.
