Description from the seller
Neoclassical French mantel clock made of white marble and gilded bronze – 19th century
This elegant French mantel clock in the neoclassical style dates from the 19th century and is made of white marble with finely crafted applications of gilded bronze (ormolu). It exemplifies the high-quality decorative art of this period.
The clearly structured marble corpus is crowned by an allegorical female figure made of gilded bronze. The figure is carefully modeled, with flowing drapery and a calm, balanced stance. The original patina of the gilding gives the ensemble depth and authenticity.
The enamel dial with Roman numerals is classically designed and in easily readable condition. The watch is equipped with a mechanical movement with key-wind, as is typical for French mantel clocks of the 19th century.
The clock is complemented by two matching side dishes on marble bases with bronze elements, which harmoniously complete the ensemble and create a commanding effect. Dimensions of the dishes: height 19 cm, depth and width 11.5 cm.
