A complete set of 24 original heliogravure prints after Egon Schiele, published in Vienna by the State Print Office of Austria in the early 1950s, plate signed, limited edition, 34 × 24 cm, Austria, Expressionism.
Description from the seller
An extremely rare full set of 24 original heliogravures after Egon Schiele. Provenance: a small edition published in Vienna by the State Print Office of Austria (Staatsdruckerei Östereich) on high-quality paper in the early 50s; from a private collection in London.
Individual prints from this State Print Office of Austria series have sold at auction for more than €1,500.00, including on Catawiki.
Please note: these are rare, original heliogravures from the early 50s, not later reproductions or giclee prints, which are far more common.
Schiele prints from this period are very difficult to find as the majority are now in institutions and private collections.
The prints, which demonstrate Schiele's distinctive style, are well preserved for its age, with some minor wear, as pictured. They have been stored in an archive.
Taking into consideration their scarcity and value, the prints will be carefully and professionally packaged with protective wooden boards, insured, and shipped with tracking. A signature will be required on delivery.
Egon Schiele has become one of the world's most celebrated artists - and is held in the same high esteem as the likes of Vincent van Gogh and Pablo Picasso - since participating in the Vienna Secession alongside Oskar Kokoschka and Gustav Klimt.
