Trustpilot 4.4 | 126478 reviews

Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.

A vintage music box in the form of an elegantly dressed cat, dating to the 1950s, with a textile and papier‑mâché body and damask‑like fabrics and silk details, measuring 20 x 15 x 15 cm and weighing 400 g, in good visual condition with a mechanical movement that is present but noticeably jerky and stiff, a scarce collectible characterising authenticity of the period.

AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Note that the part needs to be repaired in order to function properly.
An exceptionally charming vintage music box in the shape of an elegantly dressed cat, a type one rarely encounters.
Not a classic figure like a ballerina or clown, but a theatrical, almost fairy-tale cat character, which immediately distinguishes this piece and makes it appealing to collectors.

The cat is crafted with a hand-painted head made of composite/paper-mâché, with refined brushstrokes that are also visible on the back.
This points to an older, artisanal construction and not to later plastic mass production.
The body is clad in richly detailed, brocade-like fabrics with a subtle metallic thread shine and decorative pearl-like buttons.
The clothing is in exceptionally beautiful condition, which is particularly rare for this kind of older music boxes.

The mechanical music mechanism is wound up with a large metal key at the back, typical of mid-20th-century music mechanisms.

The musical work is functioning fairly well.
During play, the cat moves noticeably lumbering and stiff, which is characteristic of the type of mechanism and the piece’s age. This pronounced movement underscores the authentic, nostalgic character and confirms that this is a real vintage object, not a modern reproduction.

The upholstered plinth, finished with decorative trim, has also been carefully completed and is in beautiful condition.
The fact that both the front and the back are aesthetically finished strengthens the decorative character.

Such music boxes with an anthropomorphic cat figure are significantly less common than those featuring classical subjects.
This makes it a rare and collectible object, especially loved by enthusiasts of music boxes, cat figurines, and characterful vintage decor.

What makes this piece special is not only its rarity, but above all its character.
The stately bearing, the luxurious clothing, and the old-fashioned, willful movement give this cat a pronounced personality.
A music box that does not aim for perfection, but charms through authenticity, age, and presence.

Condition: very good visual condition

Movement: present, markedly awkward and stiff

Remark: a rare subject – cat figures in music boxes are uncommon

It is packed with the utmost care and shipped securely with track & trace.
No shipping outside the EU and the islands.
