Item Description:
This is an original pre-1945 Japanese “Shussei-ki” (出征旗), or "Military Send-off Flag," specifically made for a naval conscript, as indicated by the prominent Rising Sun design used by the Imperial Japanese Navy.
The flag was traditionally presented to a man departing for service as a symbolic token of encouragement and patriotism.

The upper half of the flag features the radiant Kyokujitsu-ki (旭日旗), with the kanji 祝 (Celebration) in the center and the patriotic slogan 盡忠報國 (Serve Loyally and Repay the Country) across the top.
The lower half, dyed in purple, includes the name 清水富雄君 (Mr. Tomio Shimizu), likely the enlistee, and 小林順造 (Junzō Kobayashi), the presumed presenter.
These naval send-off flags were often gifted by families, local communities, or schools when a young man was joining the Imperial Japanese Navy.

The flag is made of cloth and shows wear and minor discoloration, consistent with its age, which adds to its authenticity and historical significance.
A rare and evocative piece of wartime memorabilia.
