AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Folding screen composed of four hinged wooden panels, made of carved and hand-painted wood, with a traditional frame of stiles and rails.
The surface is divided into rectangular panels alternating with geometrically patterned perforated wooden grilles, executed by hand. The uprights and the frames are decorated with stylized floral motifs and rows of small painted circular elements.
Within the panels there are hand-painted figurative scenes on a dark background, depicting characters in traditional Eastern clothing, alone or in pairs, engaged in scenes of conversation, dance and music. The figures wear richly decorated outfits and the color schemes are predominantly in shades of red, green and ochre, framed by painted borders.
The upper portion of the panels is shaped and decorated with additional painted figurative scenes, integrated into the wooden structure.
The panels are connected by iron, book-style hinges, with slotted screws, consistent with traditional artisanal workmanship; there is rust and signs of use compatible with age.
Period / Age
Based on the construction features, decorative techniques, materials, and visible hinges, the folding screen can be cautiously dated to the end of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century, roughly 1900–1940.
Dimensions of each individual panel: H 91 cm - L 41 cm.
Overall dimensions: 164 cm × 91 cm
