The offered screen print is printed on heavy paper. The work is not signed, and executed in intense colors. Max Bill was formed in Bauhaus circles.
about Max Bill:
Bill studied from 1924 to 1927, training as a silversmith at the School of Applied Arts in Zurich, and from 1927 to 1929 at the Bauhaus College of Design in Dessau. In 1929 he returned to Zurich, where he worked as an architect, painter, sculptor (from 1933), publicist (from 1936), and industrial designer (from 1944).
In 1931 he married the cellist and photographer Binia Spoerri and built his own house/studio in Zürich-Höngg. In 1932 he joined the Parisian artists' group Abstraction-Création, founded in 1931 by Georges Vantongerloo. From 1944 to 1945 he was a design lecturer at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Zürich.
With Georges Vantongerloo and Antoine Pevsner, he had an exhibition in 1949 at the Kunsthaus Zürich, and in the same year he received the Kandinsky Prize in Paris. In 1951 he participated in the São Paulo Biennale in the Brazilian city of São Paulo and won the Grand Prix for sculpture. He was also a co-founder of the Hochschule für Gestaltung in the German city of Ulm in that year. From 1952 to 1956 he was the first rector. Bill was invited to participate in the documenta in Kassel in 1955 (documenta I), 1959 (documenta II) and 1964 (documenta III).
Bill was a member of the Zurich municipal council from 1961 to 1968. From 1967 to 1968 he built a new residence/studio in Zumikon, where he settled in 1968. From 1967 to 1974 he was a professor at the Staatliche Hochschule für Bildenden Künste in Hamburg. He was a member of the Swiss Parliament from 1967 to 1971. After the death of Binia Bill-Spoerri in 1988, Bill remarried in 1991 the art historian Angela Thomas. The artist died on 9 December 1994. His son Jakob Bill has been chairman of the Max, Binia + Jakob Bill Stiftung since 1996.
