Large Asian chess set, probably Chinese, 20th century, circa 1960–1980.
A decorative and finely crafted Asian chess set, probably of Chinese origin, from the 20th century. The set consists of a foldable chessboard with an integrated playing field, as well as two pull-out side drawers for storing the pieces.
The chessboard is made from different types of wood and features a classic, high-contrast board. The surrounding frame is richly decorated with carved dragon motifs, a symbol typical in Chinese culture.
The brass fittings and handles underscore the decorative and high-quality finish of the piece.
The 32 chess pieces are figuratively designed and available in light and dark finishes. They are stored in the side drawers lined with red felt.
The chess set is suitable both as a fully playable board game and as a representative collector's item and decorative object.
