Vlak voor Arnon Grunberg in 1992 voor zijn opzienbarende debuut met Blauwe maandagen stond, begon hij met ene Esther Krop te corresponderen. Zij had op het gymnasium gezeten en wilde iets artistiekerigs doen. Grunberg vindt haar eerste gedichten veelbelovend, verandert gaandeweg drastisch van mening. Waar de brieven die Esther aan de jonge schrijver schreef verloren zijn gegaan, geldt dat niet voor de antwoorden die Grunberg terugschreef. De ‘jeugdvriendin’ besloot met toestemming van de schrijver die brieven in facsimile uit te geven. 
In hetzelfde jaar publiceerde Uitgeverij d'jonghe Hond (in zeker zin Grunbergs voorgangers in) 'De Grote Drie', gefotografeerd door Friso Keuris. 

1. 2011. Brieven aan Esther - Alauda Publications, Amsterdam. Fraaie door Esther Krop zelf vormgegeven bibliofiele uitgave van de brieven, door Slinger in Alkmaar gedrukt en Jansenbinders in Leiden gebonden.
Formaat: 220 x 306 x 10. Aantal pagina’s: 80 p. Oplage: 200. Ongenummerd. Gesigneerd door Arnon Grunberg.

2. 2011. Zelfde uitgave in pocketformaat (13.6 x 20.2 cm). Los toegevoegd: Heruitgave van de in 1992 bij Grunbergs eigen uitgeverij verschenen gedicht De dood zal mijn moeder zijn.

3. 2011. De Grote Drie = Uitgeverij d'jonghe Hond, Zwolle. Foto's van Willem Frederik Hermans, Gerard Reve en Harry Mulisch met een tekst van Arnon Grunberg. Formaat: 32 x 25 cm. Aantal pagina's: 32. Oplage: onbekend.

Als extra toegevoegd: een drietal boekenleggers van Alauda Publications met teksten uit brieven aan Esther.
