Egon Schiele (1890-1918), after - Self-Portrait

Original heliogravure on thick quality paper with signature in the plate. This reproduction of Egon Schiele was printed in 1950 in a limited, small edition by the Staatsdruckerei of Austria. This reproduction was never framed and has been well preserved.

These reproductions are difficult to find because they are located with official institutions or in private collections. Items from the same series have previously been sold on Catawiki for more than 1500 euros.

Egon Schiele (June 12, 1890 – October 31, 1918) was an Austrian painter. Schiele was a protégé of Gustav Klimt and a leading figurative painter of the early 20th century. His work is known for its intensity and raw sexuality, as well as for the artist's many self-portraits. The twisted bodily forms and expressive line that characterize Schiele's work mark him as an early exponent of Expressionism.

The printing process is of the highest quality and is almost comparable to the original. Today, only three printing houses worldwide still use this method. The color image is split - from light to dark - into a maximum of 25 colors and then printed in as many print cycles on top of each other. This technique was mainly used in small editions.
