A vintage 1950s ceramic wall plaque by Roger Capron, 18 x 18 cm in a wooden square frame, depicting a cheerful couple at table with a sleeping cat, signed R. Capron and studio marks, in excellent overall condition with slight original glaze crackle in some areas.
Description from the seller
Trivet / decorative wall tile in polychrome glazed ceramic, with a joyful and highly decorative motif 'Bon Appétit!'
A charming scene depicting a couple seated at a table, joyfully raising their glasses in honor of the meal.
The man (yellow hat) toasts with a large yellow glass, and the woman (hair in a bun) also raises her glass.
In the center of the table: a bottle, a green jug, various containers and a stylized sundial/clock.
In the foreground, a big tabby cat asleep, curled up under the table — a humorous detail very typical of Capron's warm universe.
Geometric patterns (yellow/black checkerboard) and dominant vivid colors: turquoise, green, yellow, brown, with touches of silvery/metallic.
Relief inscriptions (enamelled):
At the top: "BON APPÉTIT" (inverted in some photos but still readable)
At the bottom: "ENJOY YOUR MEAL!" (repeated with enthusiastic exclamation)
A very characteristic indented handwritten signature: R. CAPRON
Recessed stamp mark: ROGER CAPRON (block lettering)
Debossed round stamp (studio signature with typical sun/circular motifs – partially visible)
The ceramic plaque is set into a square-shaped wooden frame, with a natural antique patina, very elegant.
Dimensions :
18.2 × 18.2 cm (ceramic + frame)
Total height: about 2 cm
Weight: 618 g
State:
Excellent overall condition – no chips, no cracks, no restoration.
Very good preservation of the enamels, the relief, and the colors (slight crackling of the original enamel in some areas, common and normal for this type of piece).
Solid wooden frame, with no major defects.
A very decorative piece, full of charm and Provençal/Mediterranean spirit, perfect for a kitchen, a dining room, or a collection of Vallauris ceramics from the 1950s-1960s.
Authentic piece, signed multiple times and bearing the classic Roger Capron workshop marks.
