Description from the seller

Beautiful unique Garde chess clock
In good condition... works well, and all the little keys are original.
The winding mechanism is excellent.
Made in the GDR around 1960 at the Ruhla factory in Thuringia
Unique item due to the ELKA brand imprint at the bottom.

The clock also features an additional inlaid border of lighter wood around it.

The name ELKA comes from Lazarus Kiek, who owned two stores in Amsterdam, including one on the world-famous Kalverstraat.
When selling his inventory, there were 700 watches in his store of the Garde brand with an ELKA badge.
The maker in the early days of Garde was UMF... later Ruhla.

A unique specimen, so... definitely for the collector.
