Maldives. 50 Laari. 1960.
- Value: 50 Laari.
- Year: 1960 (AH 1379).
- Inscriptions: Obverse: central palm tree over a crescent and star, flanked by two national flags, with the date 1960 on the left and ١٣٧٩ on the right, and an Arabic legend in a bottom cartouche. Reverse: value 50 in Latin and Arabic numerals, surrounded by an Arabic inscription corresponding to the state.
- Grade: MS62 (NGC).
Copper alloy coin with a circular shape and a serrated edge, part of the monetary series introduced in the Maldives in 1960. The obverse features a symbolic composition of strong national identity, combining the palm tree as the island emblem with the crescent and star of Islamic tradition, all executed in a sober and well-balanced style, with crisp reliefs and properly centered. The reverse shows the face value prominently in large size, accompanied by well-defined Arabic inscriptions. A specimen with appreciable original luster, relatively clean fields and a uniform gold-toned patina, with slight contact marks in keeping with the grade, offering a very attractive visual presence.
