Description from the seller
Terracotta sculpture – “Kronos”
The first half of the 1920s.
Rodin style
Terracotta sculpture depicting a powerful nude male figure, captured in a dynamic and dramatic pose, kneeling with the torso rotated and the head thrown back in a gesture of tension and introspection. The work dates to the first half of the 1920s and sits squarely within the expressive trajectory of the Rodin-inspired style, characterized by energetic modeling, vibrating surfaces, and a strong emotional rendering of the human body.
The material is worked with great plastic intensity: the surfaces are irregular, marked by the artist's gesture, with evident manual traces that accentuate the sense of inner struggle and existential drama. The anatomy, though not academic, is extremely expressive and conveys a primordial force, coherent with the subject evoked by the title “Kronos,” a clear reference to time, fate, and the destructive and generative power of the mythological deity.
The natural patina of the terracotta, with its color variations, enhances the work’s archaic and timeless character. The sculpture appears authentic and consistent with early 20th-century Expressionist production, ideal for collectors of figurative sculpture, Symbolist art, and Expressionism.
Dimensions:
• Height: 35 cm
Width: 25 cm
Depth: 18 cm
Material: Terracotta
